THE BAJA HA-HA CELEBRATES
CRUISING EVERYWHERE IN MEXICO . . .
AS WELL AS AT ALL THE STOPS ON THE WAY DOWN THERE
The fuel dock at Channel Islands
Oxnard's Channel Islands Harbor, for example. It's the closest of all harbors to Anacapa Island, and I think Santa Cruz Island, too.
And it's only about 22 miles to the next great place to anchor going south, Paradise Cove.
The other side of Channel Islands Harbor
You want to be careful when entering the harbor, because the outer breakwater is detached. The first time I entered, I nearly piled my Freya 39 up on the breakwater.
The entrance, look closely, see the detached top of the T?
I was singlehanding north from Marina del Rey, had gotten the crap beaten out of me, and it was 3 in the morning. So I wasn't thinking so clearly. I've never come so close to losing a boat before.
You can always enter from the southeast, but some years it's dangerous or impossible to enter from the west. You might want to call the Coast Guard to ask about current conditions.
Dan and Michelle's welcome party for the SoCal Ta-Ta fleet
If you need a berth, we always recommend asking Dan the Man or Michelle at Channel Islands Marina and Village Partners Marina. Over the years they have been the greatest hosts possible for the SoCal Ta-Ta fleet.
It's a good idea to have bikes, because it's a ways to supermarkets and other stores. Nonetheless, it's always been a favorite stop of ours.
